Kimichika Haijima was a member of a strong junior high school volleyball team in Tokyo, but after getting into serious trouble with the team, he moves to his mother's hometown of Fukui, where he spent his childhood, and is reunited with his childhood friend, Yuni Kuroba. Kuroba, who has outstanding physical abilities but is weak under pressure, and Hajima, whose overwhelming passion and talent for volleyball always cause friction with others, grow up to be an ace pair. But in their last prefectural tournament before they graduate middle school, they get into a big fight. The two of them both start school at Seiin High, no longer friends. Waiting for them on the boys volleyball team is the oddball pair of Oda, the hot-headed 163cm tall captain, and Aoki, the cool, 193cm tall vice-captain, as well as second-grader Kanno, who is allergic to sunlight and always wears long sleeves and long pants. Haijima and Kuroba aim for one more shot at the national championship, but...

November. There's one last chance for the current members of the team to compete at the national level: the Spring High School Volleyball Tournament. With Kuroba, who's gradually begun to realize how to act as the ace of the team, and Haijima, the genius setter, the Seiin High Volleyball Team is finally ready to aim for the top. Fukui Prefecture only gets one slot at the tournament... If they want to make it to Tokyo, they'll have to beat the members of the Fukuho Tech team, including their leader Subaru Mimura, the strongest attacker in the prefecture. Fukuho and Seiin are finally ready to face off to see who gets the right to attend the spring tournament!
